Machine Exports
Brazil – Brazilian exports of machinery and equipment grew by 32.8% in September compared to the same month in 2016. Data released by the Brazilian Machinery and Equipment Industry Association (Abimaq) showed that manufacturers in the sector earned US$ 813 million from external sales last month. However, the value was 2.7% below the revenues from exports in August.
In the year-to-date, Brazil’s capital goods industry saw a 9.4% increase in exports, reaching US$ 6.5 billion. According to Abimaq, despite the decline in domestic market demand, international market activity improved.
“Many companies have maintained their productive activities with a significant portion of their revenue related to exports, even though with reduced profitability and potential losses due to exchange rate appreciation,” the association stated in a note.
The main destinations for Brazilian products were Latin America, the United States, and Europe, according to Abimaq.
External purchases totaled US$ 9.5 billion in the first nine months of the year, a 21.9% decrease compared to the same period last year. However, in September, the index showed a positive result: imports reached US$ 1.17 billion, an increase of 16.8% compared to September 2016 and 7% compared to August.
Overall, the Brazilian machinery and equipment industry’s revenue reached R$ 50.05 billion for the year to date in 2017.
